Nunavut Budget 2021

Tax Development Feb 24, 2021

On February 23, 2021, the Honourable George Hickes, Minister of Finance, presented Nunavut’s budget for 2021–22.

Consistent with last year, the 2021–22 budget focuses on the current government’s stated mandate to develop infrastructure, grow the economy, create and prepare people for good jobs, and promote individual and community self-reliance and well-being throughout Nunavut.

The budget projects a modest operating deficit of approximately $14.3 million for 2021–22.

No new taxes or tax increases were announced in this year’s budget. However, the government noted that the federal carbon levy will be increased from $30 to $40 per tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in April, as previously planned under the program.
