- Lone Star Card
– Computerized bank-type card replacing paper food stamp
coupons that has dramatically reduced fraud and abuse in the
food stamp program.
- Family Pathfinders
– Links welfare families with local civic clubs, congregations, and
businesses to help them get jobs and leave the public
assistance rolls.
- Texas School Performance Review
– Has shown public school districts how to save more than
$350 million, while keeping scarce education funds in the
classroom where they belong; eases burden on local taxpayers.
- Texas Tomorrow Fund
– Prepaid college tuition plan.
- Texas Lottery
– Commanded the most successful state lottery startup in history.
AWARDS
Mr. Sharp has received numerous awards, including being named “Outstanding Freshman” by Texas Monthly after being elected to the Texas House of Representatives. Mr. Sharp received the only Texas Quality award ever presented to a government agency while at the Comptroller’s office.
