This full-day seminar contains three modules and covers the GST/HST and QST, SR&ED and Government Funding, and Canadian Income Taxes.
The module covering GST/HST and QST will provide attendees with a summary of the most important issues posed by Canada's value-added taxes. Topics will include which taxes to charge and under what circumstances, documentation requirements and common pitfalls when claiming input tax credits. In addition, we will highlight the rules for the self-assessment of tax and the recapture of input tax credits on certain types of expenses. The SR&ED/Government Funding module will provide an overview of both programs, eligibility criteria, expenditures that can be claimed, practical examples of qualifying items, and recent developments in the administration of the programs. The Income Tax module is designed to provide a valuable overview of tax compliance, structures, rates, and incentives related to conducting business in and/or through Canada. The presentation will compare and contrast the Canadian income tax system with the U.S. regime.
