Saskatchewan Budget 2016

Tax Development Jun 01, 2016

On June 1, 2016, Minister of Finance Kevin Doherty presented the 2016 Saskatchewan budget, entitled “Keep Saskatchewan Strong”. The Minister acknowledged that the province’s economy has been challenged by “a fragile world economy, coupled with sharp declines in oil and potash prices”. The focus of this year’s budget is on controlling spending and investing in people and infrastructure.

In line with the government’s recent election campaign, this budget contains no new commodity tax measures or tax increases. The Minister noted that the province’s low taxes are a key element of a strong economy and that Saskatchewan now has one of the lowest personal and business tax rates in Canada.
