Larry Paul is the co-founder and managing principal of Laurel Crown Partners, a family office private-equity fund focused on investing in growth-oriented businesses with established operations and management. In that role he has overseen a wide range of acquisitions and subsequently participated in the strategic management of those purchases.
Prior to joining Laurel Crown, Larry was a senior member of the health-care investment banking team at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) and then CS First Boston after its purchase of DLJ. His primary area of responsibility was life sciences including pharmaceuticals and therapeutics, medical devices and technology, biotechnology, drug delivery, drug discovery and distribution. As an investment banker, he was responsible for all aspects of corporate finance, structuring and mergers and acquisitions work for his clients. He spent the early part of his career at Goldman, Sachs and James D. Wolfensohn, Inc. focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions.
Larry serves on the public board of Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation as well as on the boards of several portfolio investments including Crew Knitwear (apparel manufacturer), Airxcel (manufacturer of equipment for the RV and telecom markets), Global Fitness Holdings (operator of fitness centers), P&P Real Estate, Kova International (disposable medical products), Five Four Clothing (apparel), Ryan, LLC. (financial services) and the Pittsburgh Steelers where he and his family are principal shareholders. He previously served as a director of Valeant Pharmaceuticals and portfolio companies Morton’s Restaurant Group, Harley Marine Services (port services provider), Dixie Electric (oilfield services provider), Meyer Products (snow and ice removal equipment) and Summit Research Labs (chemical intermediates).
Larry’s nonprofit interests are varied. He serves on the board of Harvard Medical School where he is also the co-chair of the Advisory Council on Education and a member of the Steering Committee of the institution’s capital campaign. He has served for many years as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross in various capacities and currently is the Vice Chairman of the board. He is also a member of WPO and CEO, a member of the board of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, a member of the Steering Committee for the Institute for the Study of the Economics of Sports and Society at UCLA and a member of the advisory board of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He previously served as a member of the Management Board of Stanford Business School where he continues to frequently guest lecture. He also guest lectures at UCLA and USC both in classrooms and on panels there.
Larry holds an AB from Harvard College (where he was a member of the Harvard Lampoon), a MD from Harvard Medical School and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Larry lives with his wife, twin sons and their Portuguese water dog in Los Angeles. He loves to golf, exercise, travel, enjoy good wine and spend time with his family.
